Beware of Alamo rental!

1

Costco Travel: #C342395752 Alamo Confirmation Number:#1256056354 When I picked up my recent Alamo rental (Dodge Caravan) on February 1, 2018, the agent did a superficial look around the vehicle. He did not invite me to walk around the mini-van to confirm his observations. He noted "some damage" and gave me the forms. I took his word for it. We had no incidents during our rental period. We returned the rental on February 14 with a full tank. The agent's check in device wasn't working and he wasn't able to print the receipt. I told him we would miss our flight if he couldn't find another scanner to print our check out receipt. He made no mention about any damage while we were there waiting for the receipt. Since he couldn't locate a working scanner, he told us to "go ahead". Minutes later after passing through airport security, I got a call from an agent, (I'm not certain it was the same guy who checked me in), telling me that he noticed "some minor damage". I told him there had been no damage during the rental, and furthermore, he had not detected any problem while we were present during the check in of the vehicle. He assured me there would be NO CLAIM, NO DAMAGE REPORT (AND CERTAINLY NOT A LETTER FROM THE DAMAGE RECOVERY UNIT)! He did advise me to "purchase insurance on my next rental." That seemed strange since he had not observed any damage while I was present. I received a call from the Long Beach manager asking why my review of Alamo was negative. I told her the problem, and she apologized and offered a credit on my rental due to the poor service experience I had just received. I assumed all was well until I opened Alamo's letter dated February 16, 2018, claim # 12244067 and rental agreement 838 95* 074. I feel I've been scammed by Alamo. Not only did the check in not reveal any damage while I was present, but after reassurances from the check in guy and the airport manager both stating the matter was closed and there would be NO CLAIM, I received this letter insisting damage was caused during my rental! Costco, Long Beach Airport, the Better Business Bureau and anyone else who considers customer complaints will receive a copy of this letter.
