ATM handling checks improperly

I was told by my bank manager that I could cash my check without going to the teller’s window. I was told I could simply scan the check through the ATM and receive the due amount. So I received this check for a small sum and decided to try it with the ATM. The message was that the check was read properly and that I had to wait. After a long wait the ATM just got numb and rebooted to the inital screen, without giving me my due cash.

Somehow, their ATM, for no reason, mistakenly ate my card. This gave me a lot of trouble. And they didn't even apologize.
