Will not honor sale pricing as a result of site problems

I had been waiting for the 50% flash sale to purchase two expensive items however due to site performance difficulties I was unable to complete the transaction. When I called customer service, they acknowledged that they were having terrible site performance issues but that they would not honor the sale price because I had waited more than 24 hours to call. I explained that I had tried for more than an hour to complete the transaction but they said I should have called technical support. I Now wonder if the 50% flash sale and “technical issues” might be a scam knowing that customers cannot complete high price purchases. If it were not a scam then why would they not honor the sale prices when they know of and acknowledge severe site performance issues?
