Bad plasticizer, Soles are Vibram, GREAT.... but the back plastic was too stiff. Cracked due to cold within two years. Money lost 150+. Buy Vasque or Lowa in the future.... no need to file a claim that will be denied. Vasque and Lowa just have better quality control and engineered materials. Picture speaks for themselves. Claim denied by Merrell User's recommendation: Ignore the warranty, it will be similarly ignored by Merrell.
