The sales pitch at sign up time for Hospice is not what happens in reality. They claim to take care of your loved one and support the family. In reality their communication within their organization is so flawed, your loved one does not get required equipment timely, medicine is delayed, supplies are not available. Be prepared to run errands for the Vitas nurses, cover for them during their lunch break. After 5pm, be prepared to not get a response from leadership as they have a work life balance policy and don’t want to bothered. It is even worse on the weekends. It’s a 24 hour day and your loved one remains ill even after 5 pm. Hospice is a necessity in most cases, just don’t believe what they pitch at sign up.
