Unhelpful Bank of Scotland
1
I’m a Bank of Scotland Current Account customer. I opened my account a few years ago when I lived in Scotland, but have since moved to the south of England. I’m currently on incapacity benefit, and am on a debt management plan for a Lloyds TSB credit card I had, paying £10 per month to them by cheque. The problem is that one of the recent cheques I wrote was taken off my account as £100, instead of £10! It was clearly a mistake (that’s the only payment I make by cheque so it’s not as though it was confused with something else) so I phoned BoS to complain. Amazingly, instead of fixing it, or agreeing to investigate, they said they’d send me a copy of the cheque (for which they’d charge me £5!) and if there was definitely a mistake then they’d look into it! I couldn’t believe it but didn’t seem to have much choice. The copy cheque arrived about 3 days later. Although the dot in the “£1.00” figures was quite faint, it was definitely there, and the words definitely said “One pound only”. So I phoned BoS back and they then said I had to take it into a Bank of Scotland branch so they could deal with it – despite the fact I live in England now! I’m at my wits end – my account balance is £99 down, which I can ill afford, and no-one seems to want to take responsibility for their mistake!
