The Salvation Army shelter of Benton Harbor Michigan has shown time and time again that the staff are repeatedly trying to take advantage of the residents. On many dates the staff and officers have threatened to kick people out without them having a place to go. This is dangerous because the city of Benton Harbor is known for violence. This leads into saying that they choose the people they want to be there and who they don’t. The ones who help the most in and around the Salvation Army are picked on and told that they need to find other sources of housing in a three months time. But for the ones who are having a complicated time finding a job or are disabled with papers proving it are not getting staff assistance nor government assistance they need and are in fear of not finding suitable housing to last through the winter. The staff has shown that they do not care about the people of Benton Harbor. They allow family members to come and stay as long as they want. These family members come in and sign in then leave acting like they are still there when they have their own place and this does not allow the people who are coming in for shelter to have a place to sleep. But when it comes to people that actually need help they throw them under the bus. Why show favoritism to family and friends who come in drunk and disorderly annd start fights and start stealing from residents and staff alike. Then when the people who are actually going through a hard time come in after a hard day and all they want to do is relax they are threatened with being tossed out on the streets. I am hurt to say that as much love I have for the things that the Salvation Army stands for and does I believe that the way the people are being treated in the Salvation Army of Benton Harbor is wrong and should action taken immediately and swiftly.
