I discovered this in trying to resolve my problem: THEY ACTUALLY DON’T CARE WHAT THE METER GAUGES READ. Past several months [Sept 2018-march 2019] turned my gas furnace off during the day to save money. For several months this effort worked [saving money that is]. Recent bill [Feb-Mar 2019] that is waaaayyyyy tooooo high. I don’t get straight answers with “Customer Care” … They have a script to “read” dealing with all customer complaints and issues. I was told, “No you cannot contact Billing directly.” Turns out Dominion Energy DOES NOT BASE GAS USAGE – and thus your bill - on accurate meter data… They use a computer algorithm: weather conditions, and usage from previous years. In other words, since it was colder outside … my bill AUTOMATICALLY WENT UP EVEN THOUGH GAS WAS TURNED OFF MOST OF THE DAY.
