Unable to talk to a live person

I had to cancel flights from back in June and Im trying to rebook using my open ticket, when I call, the automated system cannot find my customer reference number and it does not give you the option to stay on the line to speak with the next available representative. How do you speak with a live person?!?! User's recommendation: Avoid using a third party to book reservations.
