This is a terribly incompetent company. Before leaving the leaving the hospital we were promised all the equipment, including oxygen, would be at my Grandma’s assisted living facility before she was discharged. It was not. We waited for over several hours (and had to make multiple phone calls) for everything-including oxygen-to be delivered. There was a massive lack of communication between the hospice staff and the assisted living facility staff. Orders for medication changes and oxygen increases were not given to the facility staff in a timely manner (sometimes not at all) and our family had to constantly follow up on everything. The hospice doctor sent my grandmother to the hospital for emergency surgery for a broken hip during the Covid-19 pandemic. She had told facility staff she wasn’t in pain, she could still stand and walk. The Dr. said he was positive there was a fracture and evidence of an older break. The hospital determined there was not fracture or break. I don’t believe the doctor actually reviewed the X-rays himself. Upon switching hospices my mom received a phone call from the Chaplin offering his condolences for my grandmother’s death-except she’s still alive! He didn’t bother to read the paperwork showing she was discharged, not deceased, before making the call. My grandmother liked her nurse, and that’s the only positive thing I have to say about this company. User's recommendation: Do not use Vitas as your hospice provider.
