We contacted Appliance RX on Sunday, December 6, 2009 and asked if they could diagnose and repair a Dacor range/oven. They advertise factory trained technicians that are EPA Certified. They also claim to have more than ten years of experience in diagnosing and repairing household appliances, including high end appliances. They sent two repair men out late that day. They looked at the range and said it needed a thermostat and a front circuit board. They were going to order the parts and let us know when they could come back. We paid them $70 (cash) towards the repair. Their service charge is $65 and, if they perform the repairs, the $65 would be deducted from the total charge. They finally contacted us on December 16, 2009 and arranged to come out between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. They arrived at 6:15 pm that night. When they replaced the circuit board, nothing changed. The oven still didn’t work. The two men that showed up this time were not the same men that were here on December 6th. Since the circuit board didn’t fix the problem, they said the original diagnosis was wrong and we needed the rear circuit board. The left us a repair receipt but didn’t charge us. We were originally told that since the circuit board they replaced was not the problem, they would leave this in place. The one they took out was still good. At that time, we ordered the black bezel and said they could replace that when they came back with the correct circuit board. They called on December 23rd and said the part was in but they couldn’t put us on the schedule. They originally said they would schedule us the same time they called to say the part was in. We told them that we needed the oven repaired, reminded them of their promise and they still wouldn’t put us on the schedule. I told them we were very dissatisfied with their service and were going to call the BBB. At that point, they put us on the schedule for the afternoon. Two men arrived at 1:30 pm and replaced the rear circuit board. The oven worked at that point. They were ready to replace the bezel (a $300 part) and found they didn’t have the black one we ordered but they had a white one. We told them we didn’t want the white one installed and they tried to talk us into it. At that point, we told them we didn’t want them to replace the bezel with the correct part. We would take care of that later. We received a phone call on January 7, 2010 and they told us they needed to get back in to replace the front circuit board with our old part. At this time, 32 days had passed. We have no way of knowing that they would replace the front circuit board with our old part. We fully believe this is a questionable business practice. How often do they sell an old part as new? This causes us concern. We believe this company shows up right away, collects their $65 service charge and then comes back to do the work at their leisure. We also believe they are not factory trained and they are not professionals. This occurred right before Christmas and they took away our ability to use the oven for most of the month of December. This company does not live up to it advertisements and is extremely disappointing.
