They won’t give a refund after ticket was cancelled due to pandemic

I bought a plane ticket from them last year for a trip to China. My plane was scheduled to arrive in Beijing China on April 30th 2020 , but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. When I found out that they cancelled my plane ticket, I tried to contact cheapoair immediately. But no one answered the phone, I waited for hours, still no answer. I thought that maybe I could try the online chat service, but there were thousands of people *in line*. I waited for about a week to try to call back. I called and after waiting for an hour, I was able to reach someone, only to be hung up on .... I had no other option but to call American Airlines in order to reschedule my flight. The American Airlines staff was able to help me and they scheduled my flight for October 23rd because they said that flights to China should open up by then. About a month before my flight in October arrived , my flight was cancelled yet again. So I called American Airlines and decided that I needed to get a refund. They told me that I am able to get a full refund because it was cancelled by the airline and since it is due to the pandemic, I have a right to get a refund. The only issue is that since I bought my ticket through cheapoair, I have to get them to give me the refund. The person that I spoke to from American Airlines told me that sometimes cheapoair will say that the Airline is the one who denies refunds ( for example, they tell you that they are going to process it, but the airline declined) , but the person specifically told me that they will not decline a refund! He said that that is illegal on cheapoair's part! So after speaking to American Airlines, I called cheapoair in hopes of getting a refund , only to be put on hold for an hour . And then they told me that they will be able to process a refund. It will take 1-2 billing cycles. This was on October 15th. Not even like 2 weeks later , I received an email saying that my refund was cancelled because my ticket expired in June ! I tried contacting them to get more information, but I feel like cheapoair is really just trying to find an excuse to not give me a refund! Because American Airlines said that I can get a refund. They didn't mention anything about my ticket being "expired" . So now I'm here , and my refund is cancelled. This has been such a horrible experience. The only reason why I booked with them is because my mom had a good experience (,booking with cheapoair) when she went to Haiti last year. I never thought that this would happen. This is my first ever flight as well! User's recommendation: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
