I believe this is possible. With all the delayed entry programs, officer programs for young 1st and 2nd LT's, perhaps he was in a delayed entry program. I know of 2 young soldiers during the Korean war that just went to weekend meetings, time was of the essence and there was no time to go to boot camp, both survived the Korean war. I todays enlistment programs also anything is possible. My suggestion is to have a career Marine/Sailor/Soldier, question this person for details, time in boot camp, where was boot camp, how many general orders are there? Works everytime.
