Takes multiple appeals to get anything paid
I recently had bone graft surgery (preapproved). On the first submitted claim, MetLife declined to pay anything at all. On the appeal, MetLife decided to pay their stated benefits for everything except the actual bone used in the graft. Yes, you read that right - MetLife covered everything about bone graft surgery except the actual bone used in the graft, which should have been covered under my policy. They now want a second appeal with a written narrative on why the bone was necessary. They are obviously just trying to make the claims process so hard that I just give up. Previously, I had an issue with one of MetLife's preferred providers charging me non-negotiated rates. That bill went to collections, and MetLife's customer service declined to help me deal with their provider. At the time, I thought it was a fluke. However, after my most recent experience, I will be looking for new dental insurance.
