I was a user of Internations for many years and even became a consul which I dedicated time, effort and money into organising activities and events. I remember clearly in the early days of my membership, when you sign up to internations, one would receive reminders and transparent information about your membership and payments. However, their business practices have since gone down the drain and are now nothing short of disgusting. When I took on a new job, I didn't have time for internations and I requested to step down as consul which was done and I was removed as a consul as requested. I thought that was that and I moved on. One random day however, I received an email from internations telling me that my credit card was rejected as they tried to renew my membership and I should provide another valid one. All without me knowing. I was SO shocked because the card in question had long since expired; I had not used it in several years because I had moved on from paid membership to being a consul. I first of all wondered if it was ethical for them to retain my card details for this long but I let it go and responded to their email requesting for my membership to cease. To my utter surprise and disappointment, I was told that I cannot do that and I MUST pay, otherwise I would face legal action. There were email exchanges back and forth but it was like I was speaking to a robot. Bottom line was that they will not delete my details from their website nor allow me to remove myself from being a member until after I pay and I cancel after the renewal period. So I am meant to give them money by force, for a service I no longer use or need, just to gain access to cancel my membership. The whole situation is totally mind blowing. Never heard of any business that does this. Even with gyms and the likes, they send you reminders at the very least before charging you. Why their business has decided to use unethical, disgusting, distressing and terrible means of getting money out of its members is absolutely shameful!!! How can you get money out of members under duress and sleep well at night? If my card does not go through, then cancel my membership, don't FORCE me to renew and threaten me with legal action if I don't. Utter nonsense! I am ashamed that I used to be associated with Internations. I have a high profile job at a diplomatic mission overseas and I always promoted Internations as a way for expatriates to meet people around my city. I have since warned them all to delete all their information from the website especially their card details. All of the staff on my floor have already done so. Will go back and remind the other groups to do the same because I really do not want any of my work colleagues to fall victim to the dubious and unethical practices of Internations. They were all surprised like me that this came out of an EU country. If anyone knows how I can report these guys, please let me know!!!! Like other reviewers have stated, avoid this site at all cost. They will charge your card however they want to and they will not let you cancel, ever. It is a trap set up for you to pay money into and when you try to get out, they threaten you with legal action and the likes. I'm just wondering how they will carry out this legal action all the way from Europe to my country in North America. Just goes to show that all they're after is getting money by any means necessary. If you even dig in deeper, you would discover that over half of the 'members' on the site are inactive. That's because all of them have been blocked from accessing the website for not paying or automatically renewing their membership but Internations still maintains their pictures and details on their website as though they still have a large number of members. Incredibly dishonest!!!! At the very least, remind members about your renewals, these days, there are automatic systems for that. But they want to make money by any means necessary in the most dishonest way.
