Scammed!
*SOLVED

I had a similar experience with Geek Technician that the Apple user had. Microsoft offered to upgrade computers of those with Windows 8.1 to 10 at no cost,, so I gladly did so. While trying to find Accessories I suddenly received the message that my computer was blocked and I should call the number on the screen. Thinking it was a Microsoft no. I called and was told I had a very serious virus which would take some time to find and eliminate, so the tech told me to stay on the line and started to unblock the virus while I watched. After about 1/2 hr. I was asked what kind of security I had; I said AVG. He replied, no wonder. You need more protection and suggested 2 or 3 yr. contracts @ $250 to $300. I was shocked at the price and wanted to call my technician about it. The Geek tech told me my tech would not be able to unblock it. When learning these contracts were with Geek Technician, I asked if Microsoft authorized them. He told me they are authorized all over the world, so I went ahead and gave my credit card and driver's license nos. It took him over an hour before he removed the virus. After I hung up I called my tech and told him what happened. He was appalled that I fell for it and told me to cancel the credit card quickly. I did and am disputing the charge with my credit card co.. I tried to inform the FTC but their web site is too generic for this kind of complaint. Geek Technician is in no way authorized by Microsoft.
