The products offered for a fee can be obtained for free by TransUnion Experian and Equifax. Along with that disputes and credit monitoring services can be obtained through the credit repository themselves. There is no need for this overpriced service. Any extras wanted are provided by the credit repositories for a smaller fee and more. You can actually freeze or lock your credit through Experian Equifax and TransUnion at no cost or a smaller fee. This company also does not allow consumers to cancel their account online without going through a customer service rep. They’re hoping that the average consumer will forget to cancel before the trial period ends. I always set a reminder knowing these scam companies use marketing data to predict behavior. That being said I had to call in and provide my social security number twice, once on an automated system then again when a customer service rep came on the line. It took close to 7 minutes total for me to cancel my account. Along with that I tried emailing customer service to see if they would allow me to cancel that way. This was not an option. This is a scam but so many people out there don’t realize this and think they need a service like this to protect their credit. The best way to protect it is through the credit bureau directly. I have been a lending officer for a Bank for almost 20 years and I get many applicants who think that services like these are legit. They aren’t! Your scores that they provide you aren’t even the scores that you have if you apply for credit. That’s another conversation for another time. Just do your research on these things. Contact Equifax Experian and TransUnion directly. Go to free annual credit dot com and use that service. Don’t get side tracked with these scam companies that have marketing pop ups in as you go. Stick to the legit companies. Don’t pay for these things through a 3rd party. They are a rip off.
