Sallie Mae- Forebearance payment made, but went into default anyway. No Help

1

I became unemployed and was late on payments. I called and was granted a forebearance. Which was a fifty dollar payment. I was told at the time on the phone that I could make the payment online. The payment was made, but later was told that the money went to regular payment and not the forebearance. They said that I should have called instead of making payment online cause they have no way of know what the money should go toward. They clearly have record of the payment but say that it is to late and loan is in default. I am a co-signer and the person who got load is disabled now. I tried to explain that at the time I was told I could make payment online but it goes on deaf ears and they say they can not do anything about it. They say probably have to pay a down payment of 2500.00 and then make payments. What kind of company does not care even if you are trying to make payments. This is probably going to make my go into bankrupt. They could care less.
