Rude, unprofessional and insulting – my impression when meeting with Female auctioneer Lisa to see how I could use their services to auction my estate to downsize after my husband’s death.

I have been selling off items from our estate (we are only 50 yrs old, husband passed away from an brain injury almost 3 years ago.) We custom built our dream home on 2-1/2 acres in 2006. After my husband passed away unexpectedly, after just getting let go from a corporate career of over 17 years, I needed to re-evaluate my future and I realize that I can't continue with the dream world we had created. I sold all of his hot rod collection, zero turn mower, coin collections, many major items that I wouldn't have trusted to anyone to do for me. I kept a lot of items from our 2,700+ sq ft home in storage while I temporarily moved to a rental property while I was redirecting my life. I have a young son (13yr old now) and virtually no family, all parents deceased and we both are only children to our parents. I think I have done a good job of downsizing and starting a new life so far on my own given my circumstances. I have used or sold many appliances, household goods, tools, etc. I do have a couple of large storage units left that I am unable to use in my newest home and I have been researching how to get rid of what is left of my former life. All items have been professionally moved and stored in climate controlled storage and are newer, gently used items, many new still in the box even. I was asking Lisa how to have an auction of these items so that I can make a little money off the remaining items and quit paying storage on items that I am ready to let go and move on. She took offense to how I worded my question, I am not sure exactly what I said but I was questioning the $100 and hour fee for guys to move my stuff to the auction site + 35% commission on all sales. I know how much my stuff is worth but at an absolute auction if someone offers a $1 and nobody else bids on it because it isn't something they are looking for then I just payed $100.35 for someone to buy my $50 (minimum) craftsman workbench for $1. I was only asking how I can help them make money and make a little to show for all of my items that I still have. I thought that she would be glad that I had such a potential small gold mine that she would try to help me see how this auction would be a good idea and everything could happen rather quickly. But she took offense to my questions and huffed and grunted and told me they " are in the business to make money, not make me money." And she said she was offended by my comments on the quality of items that I had seen for sale the previous night. I was mearly trying give her an idea that my stuff had been in storage for about a year now but it wasn't the typical condition of the items that I saw NOT being bid on in last night's auction. I tried to ask her nicely if someone had actually paid them $100/hr + comm to have all that "junk" auctioned. I guess my wording struck her wrong, to say the least. She got really loud and when I asked her how we could help each other make some money, she told me "WE are not social services" and that I need to find another auctioneer. Boy, I hit a nerve somehow. I will be glad to just keep on selling my own stuff and I might consider speaking to another auctioneer. I have been doing just fine without them so far, I was just looking to make the process a little easier/quicker. I may just call Volunteers of America and have them take whatever they want. I'll be damned if I pay her to insult me.
