Return policy too strict

I purchased a belt July 2018 which literally started coming apart (delaminating) about two weeks after I bought it. I didn't keep my receipt because I didn't plan to return it. When I went back to exchange the belt for another item I was told they couldn't give me credit without the original receipt. Kinda sucks especially since I shop at the Gulf Breeze store regularly. They know me there.
