refunds my monthly payment, then claims I did not pay, then gets collection agency

I received a notice from Credit Protection Association today (4th notice) for a charge of $65.66. I canceled my service on 7/16/18 and I paid full amount prior to canceling. I thought this was a scam but I decided to call DirecPath to confirm. Sure enough, they put me to collection agency because I did "not" pay them the last months fee. DirecPath charges you month in advance and I paid the full amount. Since my bills aren't due officially until the 20th, I was refunded when I canceled on the 16th (which I was not informed) and then they recharged me on the 20th. Since I was not aware I was getting a refund or was getting charged later on, I thought I've paid everything. Today, I found out that DirecPath sent my bill to the collection agency because I never paid my last months bill. I was in shock. I'm not sure how refunding me what I paid in advance and then charging me that amount 4 days later on makes sense? In addition, they did not inform me that was going to happen. So from my perspective, I paid my bills and that was the end of it. Boy was I wrong. I'm so glad I did not wait any longer to check. Please be careful with direcpath. They have terrible customer support system and they will send you to a collection agency although you paid. They will just refund you your money and then claim that you didn't pay. PLEASE, unless your apartment situation is dire and there is no other place to go, do not live in a place that only has DirecPath as your option. Internet services they provide is a whole another issue of it's own.
