Previously agreed upon deferment was denied

In December I requested a deferment on my car loan payments over the phone, and the gentleman I spoke with claimed the request was approved. The next month, I called requesting further aid (my financial situation has been far from ideal the last few months, and I'm still trying to recover) and I was transferred to the collections department, where I was told my payment from December was overdue and they had no record of my deferment request. I asked to speak with the manager of that department, but they weren't in so I had to leave a message. I never received a call back that day or the morning of the day after, I had call them. I finally spoke with the manager, who was very short and unpleasant. They refused to stand by the agreement I made with one of their employee's, and they informed me if I didn't make my loan payment soon my vehicle would be repossessed! I'm trying to do the right thing here and take care of my debts to the best of my ability, but how can I when creditors can outright lie to me like this? Had I known the company was this untrustworthy, I would have recorded the conversation from December. I may do just that with all future interactions
