About 1-1/2 years after purchasing our house from Ball Homes, we discovered that a gutter on the corner of the house had been improperly installed. The gutters from both edges met at the corner, but both gutters had been cut too long. Instead of cutting the gutters off to the correct length, the gutter contractor just forced on a corner to mate the two gutters. This caused the gutters on both side of the house to pull away from the facia board, creating a gap of about 1-inch, allowing rain water coming off the shingles to run behind the gutter. Of course, over time, this will rot the facia board and roof decking. When I brought this condition to the attention of Ball Homes customer service, they said, "Sorry, but you are out of your 12-month builder's warranty. You can contact the gutter company and they will give you an estimate of what you will have to pay to have the condition repaired." Of course, I told them that their response was disappointing as we were not talking about a materials or mechanical item failure, but poor quality installation workmanship and a failure of the site supervisor to adequately supervise sub-contractor performance. At any rate, we will pay a professional and competent gutter company to make that repairs, choosing not to use Ball Homes' recommended contractor as their recommendation cannot be trusted. We will then review any legal options available to us. In the mean time, here is our recommendation to potential home buyers: DO NOT BUY A HOUSE FROM BALL HOMES.
