Poor patient follow-up

1

I had a shockwave lithotripsy to break up one of two kidney stones. The procedure was performed at Banner Hospital in Phoenix by Dr Scott Kalinowski of Phoenix Urologists. The procedure was without incident. I was prescribed 10 pills of pain medication to address kidney pain should it become an issue. One week after the procedure my kidney decides to expel the 2nd stone. The pain was unbearable, so I needed to start using the pain pills. As the weekend approached I new the medical clinics would be closed and unable to refill my Rx. I called the number (Phoenix Urology clinic) on my hospital discharge instructions on a Friday, left message. No return call by EOD. Called again on Saturday and reached the Physician on call. He was not able to prescribe the pain meds I was issued at discharge. He prescribed Flomax and Naproxen,. He found it odd that I was not prescribed Flomax at discharge. The Urologist, Chris Ferguson was caring and helpful. The Naproxen was only marginally successful in alleviating my pain. On Monday I called Banner Health Urology. The took my case to a Dr Kalinowski's triage nurse. She promised to discuss my case with the Dr and get back to me by EOD Monday. No call back. I called Banner Urology on Tuesday morning to check on the status on my case. I received a call back on Tuesday late morning from the Triage nurse saying the Dr wants a KUB X-ray before renewing my pain Rx. I gave her the name of SMIL Medical Imaging in Scottsdale to send the order. She promised to get back to me by EOD Tuesday. I called at 5pm on Tuesday to get an update on the X-ray order as SMIL had not received it. Banner Urology informed me the order had yet to be signed by Dr Kalinowski. It is now Wednesday morning. I called Banner Urology, still the X-ray order has not been signed by Dr Kalinowski. I have been dealing with Kidney pain now without effective pain Rx now for going on 3 days. My advice to future Banner Urology patients seek alternative provider options. Also, make sure your Provider does not subcontract services from Phoenix Urology, their after care does not even rate 1 star.
