POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, MEDICAL INSURANCE FRAUD

1

On 11/25/2019, I received a phone call from a Breath Easy Medical, representative. Dr. XXXX had referred me for CPAP supplies. I was asked what type and model of supplies I used for my CPAP machine. I told her what I use. She said, “Ok, I’ll get back to you.” On 12/03/2019, I received a package from the USPS. USPS stated that the package was initially delivered to the wrong address, as the package was incorrectly labeled. The next day, 12/04/2019, I called Breath Easy and was told I would need to bring the supplies into the store for exchange .They could not accept a return but would only exchange the items .I told them I wanted to return all items. I did NOT provide authorization to order or personally request these supplies. On 12/06/2019, I checked my health insurance account online and saw a pending charge from Breath Easy Medical. I called Blue Cross Blue Shield and informed them about the incorrect merchandise delivered to my home and informed them that I did not want to be billed for product that I cannot use. The Blue Cross representative referred me to CareCentrix, as that is their billing company. The CareCentrix representative said that I should return the supplies to Breath Easy Medical. I followed the recommended instructions to rectify this issue. On 12/10/2019 I traveled to Breath Easy Medical’s store located in Leesburg, FL because the company would not provide a return mailing label. I spoke with the manager, Shawn, stating that I wanted to return the unopened supplies and have the cost credited back to my health insurance. Shawn refused to take the supplies that were already billed. He said that I had five days to return the items (something not detailed on the bill or on any of the printed material inside the package). I explained that the items were sent to the wrong address, and that the package reached me outside of the five-day return time he mentioned. He said the only option I had was to exchange the items. Shawn told me that it wasn’t his problem and that they would not take the items back nor process a return. Immediately after this encounter I contacted CareCentrix . The representative said that she would contact Breath Easy Medical and rectify the issue. I was told that I should expect a return label for the supplies. I thanked her and waited for the return label. As of this writing I haven’t received a return label. In fact, in January 2020, I received a bill from CareCentrix for the supplies. After three attempts, I reached CareCentrix on 10 January 2020. I explained all aforementioned to the representative. They said that they would offer a discount off the bill. I said, “No, I will not pay the bill;” I want to return to supplies. I DID NOT order the supplies AND they are not compatible with my machine. I called CareCentrix again on 29 January 2020 to inquire about my account status. The CareCentrix representative said that they reached out to Breathe Easy Medical to rectify the situation. CareCentrix reports that Breathe Easy Medical denied that any of what I relayed above occurred; and thus, this is a situation of Breathe Easy Medical’s word against mine. I relayed to CareCentrix that I do not intend to pay the bill because of how this entire situation occurred, firstly without my consent for any of it and all actions I took was in good faith to obtain the correct supplies and pay for the correct supplies—none of which has occurred. The CareCentrix apologized and said that there was nothing that she could do and that I owed them payment for the bill. At this point I feel I did my due diligence to prevent this scenario. In fact, this entire scenario originates from a referral to Breathe Easy Medical from Dr. Yordan. Breathe Easy Medical acted on the referral called me and asked a couple questions about make/model of my supplies, and that was it. At no point did that company ask for my authorization for purchase, and the items were initially sent to the wrong address (setting up delayed receipt, outside of their return policy—as stated by Shawn). I feel that this is insurance fraud. I truly believe, that Breathe Easy Medical should have acted in good faith and accepted the return and been rightly paid for correct supplies I am truly disappointed that this situation is occurring at all. It could have been avoided with a simple return. At this point, the supplies are as useless now as they were on the day I received them-- and also when I tried to return them. I would pay for supplies, if I had requested them/authorized purchase thereof, and were compatible with the machine I have. They are not; I did not; and here we are. I am being referred to a Collection Company by CareCentrix if I do not pay the copay for items that I did not order and cannot use. MaryJo McBride User's recommendation: DO NOT USE CARECENTIX OR BREATH EASY MEDICAL SUPPLY.
