I rented a car from Avis in Round Rock Texas last week for 8 days. (Jan. 28-Feb-5) The price was much more affordable than others especially the airport prices but with caveats. The day of pickup, the young lady at the desk was polite and helpful, however being the only one at the business she gave us the keys and pointed towards the parking lot. After no luck locating, we insisted nicely she accompany us to point out the vehicle. The car was clean inside and drove well but the outside was unwashed to the point it was difficult seeing out the back window. After a few minutes driving we noticed a cigarette smell in the car underneath the flowery air freshener. Therefore, I determined to exchange the car the next day. The next morning I called the office number in Round Rock. Not once, but NINE times over the course of a few hours I tried to reach somebody at the front desk to insure they had a like vehicle I could trade for. I finally drove over to the business and there was a young 20's year old man behind the counter. I asked him if he had been there all day. He replied yes. "Why then" I queried "did you not answer the phone? I have called you nine times!" His answer was surprising. "You can call corporate and complain I didn't answer the phone." No apology whatsoever. He wanted to know why were returning the car. When I told him it was dirty and it smelled like tobacco, he said "We don't return cars for being dirty." I repeated "The car stinks like cigarettes and I don't smoke!" We left the parking lot with a Jeep. Another very dirty vehicle. The windshield was filthy inside and out. The rear view and backup camera were covered with dirt. I almost drove to the car wash myself I was so disgusted. I have NEVER in 30 yrs of car rentals been given a dirty car! They did not seem to care. The Jeep also had a badly worn right front tire on the outer wall, and needs replacement. I doubt the tires had ever been rotated. I do not plan to rent from this office ever again. Maybe Avis is reputable, but this particular place did not win me over as a customer. User's recommendation: Don't over expect.
