Policies and procedures concerning “testing” my checking account

Three days ago, I noticed a $1.00 pending item in my on line checking account. It took a little digging to find out it was from Good Sam Club....??? I am 5 months from renewal, so I called Customer Service ( which is a joke) and Daniel explained to me that it was their policy to "check" if funds were available for upcoming renewals. I told him this concerned me greatly by accessing my bank account for ththis reasonand that I am NOT on auto-draft anyway. He assured me it would disappear from my account by midnight. IT DIDN'T !! So I called again yesterday, talked with another agent, was told the same reason and AGAIN I told her I was not on auto-draft and they had no reason to access my account!!! And why did they even have my checking account number on record??? Apparently they store your bank account numbers on their servers for like forever!! I told her to take that charge from my account immediately, she replied "it will evidently fade away". Well I am "fading away" from Good Sam. Would do so now, but quess what ....membership fee is not refundable. How convenient! And yes today I checked my bank account and yes its still "pending". Ugh!!!!!
