Pairing fans

My customer Just purchased 2 outdoor Hunter fans . He purchased 2 hunter fans Universal remotes. I don't have the model #. The Remote has a fan stop, an up arrow and a down arrow also a light button. I tried the pair button in the battery compartment to pair the 2 fans to one remote, that didn't work. I was wondering how to wire the fans so that I could use 1 remote.
