Overcharging customers on Cyber Monday web orders

1

Received cyber Monday coupon sent directly to me from fanniemay.com. Coupon was for free shipping and 20% off. I clicked on the coupon link and placed an order for roughly $90. I have my email confirmation and website transaction receipt that match. When the order started shipping, Fannie May rescinded the 20% discount and charged the original price. They did not contact me in advance, they did not cancel the order. They started filling the order and charging me more than I had authorized when the order was placed. When I called today about the overcharge, the phone representative advised that the 20% coupon didn't apply to my order (even though the website procesed it automatically when I put items in my cart) and they were charging me the full price. She advised me my order total was now $108 even though my confirmation said $90. She also advised I would not be refunded for the difference. I asked to speak to a supervisor because I do not believe it legal to charge more than a consumer authorizes on a credit card order. The phone representative told me they "were not to refer these type of calls to a supervisor, just to give us an email address." The email address is the generic website customer service email. I asked the phone representative to cancel the remainder of my order. First she said she couldn't because "it had all shipped." I noted that most of the order was not due to be shipped until next week and I wanted that cancelled becasue I would not be paying more than I authorized. She then agreed to cancel the remainder of the order but could not provide me a confirmation so I hope it is cancelled. From reading various consumer blogs I am aware that mine is not an isolated incident by any means and might be a good class action case.
