Notified at last moment trip booked six months previously was not scheduled

I write this review to provide my experiences with Tonya Roberts with Dream Travels Inc. In early July, 2014 I contacted Tonya after seeing her online ad about renting a two bedroom villa in Aruba operated by Marriott vacation club. She explained she was a wholesaler and as a result could offer properties at a below market value rate. I am a Marriott vacation club owner and am familiar with the property she was offering and in early July I committed to renting the two bedroom unit for one week beginning 12/26/14 ending 1/2/15 and remitted $5200 to Tonya through PayPal. One week later I contacted her about getting a confirmation number from Marriott now that she had received my payment in full. At that time she explained that she was a wholesaler, and her company did not provide a confirmation number until 7-10 days before the scheduled vacation date as they cleared a large number of units every week. I explained that I own several Marriott time shares, and when I rent my units out, I always get a confirmation number from Marriott and have the renting guests name added to the confirmation notice. She assured me this is the way they always do business, and there would be no problem I contacted her again in November, realizing I had nothing in writing to confirm my vacation rental, and was beginning to get somewhat nervous. She again explained the “wholesaler” concept and told me I would get my confirmation 7-10 days before the vacation trip. At nine days before my scheduled vacation I called her and told her I had not received any confirmation and it was very upsetting. It took several days for her to get back to me because she explained her children were very sick in urgent care and she couldn’t get into the office to check to see what was going on. Finally, on Sunday 12/21 she informed me that I had no reservation for my scheduled vacation beginning in five days. She said I had never sent in a signed agreement. I never heard there was a problem when she accepted my full payment or follow-up calls in the ensuing months. She simply said I’m sorry, I’ll refund your $5200 immediately, and I can offer you a free week and a $500 gift certificate in the future. Interestingly, she said this in an email she sent me, and it is a direct quote: “And no you aren’t the first client to suffer because of issues that other clients have created with the resort. I will no longer even be able to offer Marriott rentals to the public until the issues that have been created are resolved.” You can draw your own conclusions, as to what really occurred, but I would never recommend anyone utilize Tonya Williams and her company based on my experiences. Suffice it to say that I was a bit naïve, and paid the price with $3,000 in airplane tickets I couldn’t use and no vacation in Aruba with my family.
