No incoming calls, Poor reception

United States Senator Patty Murray 154 Russell Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510 October 3, 2020 The Honorable Senator Patty Murray Please consider legislation guidelines for companies like MagicJack, from providing life threatening devices to be sold within the United States, until such devices are proven reliable meeting FCC and consumer requirements. I Kenneth Havekost, SCPO USN is a retired disabled veteran at 74 years of age. On July 25, 2020 at 1:00 PM, I purchased MagicJack, a device that plugs into a USB port on the user's computer or directly into their router. After purchasing air time from MagicJack and activating MagicJack; with some hiccups and dropped calls, MagicJack services became usable. I did not know that MagicJack was a tradeoff between price and reliability (CNET 2016). I did not know that MagicJack had problems with their product and using the consumer as a beta platform to improve their product; not considering the life threatening consequences to the consumer. (November 2019 Consumer Affairs gave Magicjack a poor rating). Because of the (COVID-19) pandemic; communication has become paramount between our doctor, schools, and family. September 2020, Saint Anthony Hospitals ER Bremerton, WA and Olympic Internal Medicine Bremerton, WA tried to contact me of a life threating emergence relating to my wife, via our MagicJack phone services. Olympic Internal Medicine had to call our emergence contacts to get hold of us; even then our emergence contacts could not reach us via our MagicJack phone services. Our phone did not ring. The call went straight to voice mail with no input, leaving us in the dark. You may ask; did you contact MagicJack? After the fact, I contacted MagicJack only to be referred to their web page with extensive technical information, or to MagicJack support chat for an additional price. (PC Magazine: the companys technical support was severely lacking). I now know I should have considered the dangers between price and reliability. Almost losing the life of a loved one over the cost of phone services was a poor choice. I will now ask more questions. I hope you will consider legislation guidelines for companies like MagicJack, from providing life threatening devices to be sold within the United States, until such devices are proven reliable, meeting FCC and consumer requirements. Throughout the election year this phrase has been quoted, One life is too many.
