New In Town – Where to Go?

Just moved to Lacey, Washington and had a problem with the car not starting. We took the car to Hawks Prairie Automotive on 8045 Martin Way in Lacey, WA 98516 as they "looked" like a good place to go and were AAA approved and also had the Chevron name attached to their business. (However you could not use your Chevron card to pay for services.) We discussed the car's problem with "Eddie" at the counter and he thought it may be the starter and it would cost about $260.00. We left the car all day on Monday, July 16th. When we picked it up Monday just before closing, the bill came to $391.50! They had done a diagnostic test for $46.00 that was not agreed to! My son called after we got home and they agreed to remove the charge. In the morning the car would not start! We finally did get it started and after calling them drove it back up to them for them to look at. They had it all day Tuesday, July 17th and told us in the evening before closing to come and pick it up - they had started it 200 times and could not get it to not start! We drove up to pick it up and the car would not start!! We expressed our dissatisfaction with their service after two days as the car had the same problem. They rebated 120.01 for the labor and the diagnostic - which they never told us they were going to do. As the remanufactured starter (with a 1 year guarantee - not even new!) did not start the car either - that was not the problem. They were to put the old starter back on the car, but they said that they did not have it any longer and it would take yet another day to get it back. That just sounded fishy!! Who knows what they would have put in the car! After them having the car for two full days - we did not trust them to have it any longer and took the car home. They should refund the $271.49 for the starter that they put on the car! They also gave us a list of suggested repairs. They said that the battery was weak however it is only 6 months old and they wanted $127.95 for a new battery. They said we needed a new belt as ours is splitting and wanted $76.93 for it - we looked at it at home and it is just fine. They said we needed a front inner seal, ceramic pads and brake fluid - suggested repairs totaled $1,163.68. This is a AAA business and they also advertise that they are Chevron Approved - but do not take the Chevron card. I am alerting both AAA and Chevron of their disreputable services hinging on fraud! As they have rebated the $120.01 - I would like a further rebate of the $271.49 for a new remanufactured starter that the car did not need.
