My dog was hurt by Sit Means Sit trainer!

1

READ BEFORE YOU GO TO SIT MEANS SIT DOG TRAINING! Our family adopted a 7 month old pit bull mix. As you can imagine, she was very energetic and needed training in a few areas. We went for a consultation at Sit Means Sit. The guy we met with was a salesman, not a trainer. He talked a good game and made it sound amazing. They use a collar.... It's a shock collar but they called it an e collar. The salesman put the prongs of the collar on our hand to show us what it felt like. Of course he had it on a very low setting and it didn't hurt at all. He said it's just like a tap on the shoulder to the dogs....just gets their attention. He showed us videos of dogs doing amazing things afterward just one session. We signed up for 4 day training sessions. A couple weeks later, I left our dog, Tessie. for an all day session. When I returned, I was immediately struck by how sad and upset she looked. I mentioned it to the trainer and was told that she was just tired. He was demonstrating what she learned and how we could continue at home. At one point, she yelped in pain. I was shocked and the trainer could see that. He said she's not hurt.. she's just frustrated because she has to follow commands instead of doing what she wants. After I left, I had a bad feeling about it. I just didn't want to take her back. I spoke with the owner about my concerns and after a very lengthy conversation, she convinced me to give it another try. After her second all day session, my husband and I went to get her, it was the same scenario. She looked dejected! I noticed her collar was extremely tight. I said something to the trainer but he said it was fine. Again she yelped in pain at least twice during his demonstration because he was shocking her! I got the same response.... She's not hurt, just frustrated. Also, she had been there over 8 hours and he kept pushing her to do things over and over again when she was clearly exhausted. Imagine being pushed to follow commands all while continuously being shocked for 8-10 hours! My husband and I both left upset and vowed not to return. We got home to discover her neck had pressure ulcers because of how tight the collar was. I believe she was traumatized there. All we have to do is show Tessie the collar and she runs away! The training is extremely expensive. They have you sign a contract and make payments. I told them I would not be back and would not give them any more money. They sent me to collections! I am posting this so hopefully prevent this from happening to others.
