My card wasn’t closed automatically!

I’ve several credit cards from this bank, for one of them I didn’t manage to close the loan, and the card became expired. It turns out that I still had the debt, and I could no longer pay it with a simple transfer from account to account. In order to pay off the debt, I’d to go to the bank office and deposit money in cash through a regular cash desk. In order to avoid having debts, even the smallest ones, on which interest can be charged for years, I asked the bank employee for the exact amount to be paid. I paid all this money through the cashier, about which I’ve a payment receipt. After I paid the debt, I wanted to write a statement with a request to close this account, but the bank employees answered me that this problem could be solved by calling the hotline and providing the necessary data. It so happened that I’d to leave the country for several months, but I still managed to contact the online technical support. I was convinced that my account was closed, I’ve no debts to the bank. When I returned to the country, the bank employees began to call me and remind me that I’ve an outstanding debt on this account, which I closed. The amount there is small, but why should I pay for a closed account, all debts on which I’ve paid off long ago (and I’ve documents about it)? A very strange situation, I hope that it will be resolved as quickly as possible and I’ll be able to continue cooperation with this bank, to which I’ve not had any complaints before.
