Maurice applied to work for our firm as a NZ manager in 2008, We flew him to Los Angeles for the interview at which time he was given the position. At this time he was living in Howick, Auckland. He is now living in the Hamilton area. It was later found out that he had lied in his work history and about a former partnership in which Maurice has failed to account for around 40k NZD. Maurice's ex partner was also the best man at his wedding. The business is still running and Maurice has not repaid any of the money. Maurice mis used company funds in our case to the sum of around 71000.00 NZD. We issued court proceedings agains tMaurice in which he came up with the most unbelievable defenses. Copies of these proceedings are available at the Manukau District court, or our barrister maybe contacted Mr.Peter Webb. The bottom line here is Maurice was in a position of trust and he set out with intent to steel company funds. While he does not admit to it we have all the documents and his signatures on all documents, wire transfers to his account. We even guaranteed his bank account with Westpac Howick, and he set himself up an overdraft without our consent, and the bank came after us for the 4k over draft that was never repaid to Westpac. There are also bounced cheques issued to suppliers, New Zealand Customs all written and signed by Maurice Payne. While we do not believe we will ever receive any money, but Maurice appears to be doing well again and I believe that the public need to be aware that this person may steel again from someone if he is in a position of trust.
