Make sure your donations are going for the right purpose.

I am a senior citizen, living on social security. I requested a one-time rental assistance so that I can move out of standard housing paying high rent to moving into a low income senior living apartment. I have worked since age 14 and never asked for help before. They denied my request because I am not being evicted from my present home. Why do I have to be evicted to receive help. That's is what I trying to prevent. I have paid taxes for many years. Yet, people who haven't worked can receive as much help as possible with no questions asked. I have also made donations to the salvation army during my working years, but cannot receive help when I am in need. Lesson has been learned. It's a pick and choose operation and I am frustrated. They told me it has to be an emergency, well to me it is an emergency. If I stay in my present situation I will be homeless at some point. I thought salvation army was to help everyone. I was just asking for a one-time hand up not a continuous hand out.
