Lost credit account payment

I opened an account with advanced auto parts to get a discount as they instructed me. Then when CARQUEST took over, I tried to get the correct spelling on my account name, and to do so took my check into the local Twin Falls, Idaho store as the correct spelling was on the check and it made sense to have them personally handle it. A month later I was sent a bill for the missing payment, I checked my account and it had cleared. I informed the store manager of that and he said he would contact head office Atlanta and handle it. I have since received 3 more bills, each time informing me of overdue account (they have my money somewhere on someone's account and have since it was paid in April) The last bill threatens me with legal action, and when I contacted them someone named Chantell informed me that I needed to prove that I made the payment and to send her a check copy...I asked if she was willing to pay 25.00 for the check, she said they don't pay check copies. Since it was their mistake, I have paid the amount, it in my mind should be handled by them. I called the local store manager, Tony, who has repeated stated that it would be taken care of, only to be told that there was nothing he could do. I informed him that I guess they would be putting me in jail over their mistake. I asked him to close the account (I will have to buy repair parts elsewhere which since the company change over will not be terrible) and I am no waiting for the next shoe to fall from the collection department of CARQUEST. I am not at fault, and am old enough I think I will fight this injustice for a while
