Loan gone wrong by CitiFinancial

1

My husband and I took out a loan through CitiFinancial back in 2007. We made regular monthly payments on this loan. We had received a card in the mail, stating that the loan had been written off due to an error on the part of Citifinancial. The interest on our loan was being charged at a much higher rate than what we had agreed to. Now....11 years after the loan origination, we receive notification from the IRS that we owe #780.00 in taxes for this loan. WE did not cancel the loan. WE did not make the error. Therefore, WE should not owe this amount in taxes. The last contact we ever had from CitiFinancial was about 5 years ago, when they questioned the "amount due" that was on our credit report, and said "CANCELLED BY CITIFINANCIAL" right next to it. CitiFinancial no longer shows up as a debt on our credit report. We were never sent the form that would have been required to add to our taxes for 2017. I feel that this is an unfair attempt to collect on an account that I DID NOT CLOSE. It was a CitiFinancial mistake, and I should not have to suffer the consequences of THEIR mistake.
