LED Pool light misinformation

1

We bought a Shasta pool back in 2010. It was supposed to be ready the day that our new construction home was ready, but some miscommunications inside their organization caused several weeks of delays. They actually comped us for it after we told Shea Homes that they should look to find another pool partner. We have had to replace some expensive parts to our system over the years, but we bought an extended warranty, which helped with the cost. I usually pass on extended warranties (like with cars and appliances) but I am glad we did it with this pool. The part that irks me today is that I had to replace the pool light early on in the life of the pool and it was really expensive (I can't remember exactly now, but probably around $700). About a year later, I was having to replace it again although it had barely been used. I was told that if I bought an LED conversion that the cost of replacing future lights would be cheaper. I did that conversion to LED back in 2015 and the light lasted about 3 years (with very little use). Today I called to see about getting it replaced and learned that I have to buy the whole kit again because I have a "spa light" versus a "pool light". They want another $700+ for the light (and labor is additional). I told the customer service person what I had been told in the past and that I converted to LED based on their story. Well, it seems that they don't really care that they got me to do something based on false information. I have lost trust in them at this point and will have to figure out another way to light my pool on those rare occasions. Hopefully this helps some other poor chump out there from getting similar treatment.
