Insurance. What Insurance?

We pay for healthcare insurance coverage through Kaiser Permanente. KP has been our provider since January of 2018. Admittedly, this provider would not have been our first choice but for small businesses it is one of only two choices in Georgia. After asking our physicians at the time, KP was marginally better than the other option. Our experience has been eye-opening at best. For the past year, we have increasingly grown disgruntled with the program over the lack of general caring of their doctors and staff, the quality of our care and our prescription availability and costs; but, we have kept our mouth shut and made the best of a very bad situation. That is until today. KP's low has reached a new high. Our daughter, who is on our plan and is going to college 820 miles away was bitten by a bat while on a class field trip. When we called KP and asked how best to get her the proper care, we were told she could go to any emergency room but for the five weekly doctor visits for the injections to prevent rabies she would have to return to Georgia. This would mean five airfares home and major disruption to her being able to attend class. Effectively, it will force her to quit college. Where is the "Live well and thrive. We'll take care of the rest." as they proudly promise and place as a banner on their web-site? Under any scrutiny, this is just plain ignorant and wrong! So, insurance. What insurance?
