Inconceivable in a time of grief

July 2010: my mom contracts for and full pays for her own cremation with Neptune Society Dec 21, 2017: mom passes. Neptune Society picks up her body. Jan 24, 2017: no body, no cremation, no return calls. WHERE IS MY MOM??? I was initially told that in order to pick up her cremains all 5 of her children needed to send in notarized documents (many pages). I can see that seeing how some fighting might ensue in some families. However a one page document would be sufficient. All documents were returned to them within 10 days. Then on Jan 8th I was told they lost one of my siblings notarized stuff due to an office move and they could not cremate mom without it?! Over the phone they took my sister’s verbal assurance that she signed it and agrees with me picking mom’s cremains up. WRONG! MOM SIGNED THE CONTRACT TO BE CREMATED AND DOES NOT NEED ANYONE ELSES PERMISSION TO BE CREMATED. In my paperwork of MANY pages there was one page with a slew of check boxes where you could agree to be in this or that program and be contacted by this or that group or organization. My page came to me ALREADY CHECKED yes on most of them. I called my “case worker” (FYI mom is not a case, find a better title) and she stated it was “standard procedure” to check the boxes for the client. I told her it was NEVER standard procedure to check yes for any customer without their consent and I do not wish any of them to be checked. OK she says. Just indicate that on the form. I scratch out all the checks, write “no to all” on the page and voila! I already got my JD Powers survey by email. SMH. Hey Neptune Society, did you sell my contact info too? So I called them FIVE DAYS ago and they said mom had not been cremated yet and someone would call me back “TODAY” to let me know why. Five days later.... I am getting dressed now. I will drive down there and demand to pick up my moms body, cremated or not. Thanks Neptune Society for helping to ease my grief. SMH
