Incompetent or Crooks – you make the call

Their service department is either incompetent or they are just a bunch of crooks. My car had front end problems, bouncing all over the place. I brought it in and complained about it for around 18 months each time I had a regular oil change. Finally they told me it was the upper control arm bushings that were shot, and by the way your front tires are shot now (about 10k miles on them worn badly on one side) and need to be replaced! That's not all, they told me I needed a new ABS computer unit installed since the light was on. I could drive without a problem, but with regular brakes. Cost of unit $1500! I went online to the Jag Forum and was told to check the battery charge, sometimes the light goes on if the battery is weak. Put on trickle charge and low and behold, no more light! Finally I had all my hoses replaced about 18 months back at their recommendation. I immediately had a leak which I never did before. They said they couldn't find any leak. Then my coolant light started going on. They said it was natural evaporation and that the light went on since the computer sensor was picking something up. Told me to just t op off the coolant. I put on about 4000 miles a year on this car, a cream puff, well cared for. I brought it to a mechanic recommended by Jag Club of LI. He said what he called the octopus hose was shot (a multi sided hose) and that was causing the leak in the coolant. He took me under the lift and showed me where the coolant was leaking and how it was staining underneath, especially near the catalytic converter, which was causing an unpleasant odor in the car. He did say the upper bushings were shot, showed me how they were off line (I could see with my own eyes, and he said the car was in bad need of an alignment, The tires were toeing in, very obvious to see. By the way the wrong size tires were on the front, which needed to be replaced but at a different size. The fronts and backs are different and these shouldn't be rotated. There were several other nonsense attempted repairs of items that I had had repaired there within a year or two. They apologized and said they didn't realize it. This shop pushes unnecessary repairs, and is terrible at diagnostics. As far as I'm concerned they are crooks! BEWARE! You'd probably have better results with your local gas station mechanic. My recommendation contact the Jaguar Club of LI and ask them about your problem and get a recommendation. You can also get great feedback from the Jaguar Forum t. They give you instructions on how to fix some very easy items on your own and where to buy the parts online at s fraction of the exorbitant dealer costs. But forget about the labor costs of $135/ hour. I think you'd be willing to pay it if the job was done properly or not recommended when it wasn't necessary. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!!!
