Horrible food and poor policies

1

We thought that the dining experience at Grand Lux in Phipps Plaza was going to be great, but we were greatly mistaken. The food selections were of poor quality. We ordered the mini crab cakes. They were of poor quality, taste and size (even through they are listed as "mini" crab cakes). We also ordered the cedar plank bbq salmon. This was not prepared well at all. It was as if someone defrosted a piece of salmon and simply applied low-quality bbq sauce to it. Additionally, the fact that it is served on a piece of wood is silly and non-effective. We also ordered the mac'n cheese. This dish was really laughable. It had absolutely no taste to it; it was prepared with very poor quality cheese and it was extremely dry. Instant box Kraft would have been better--although still unacceptable. Additionally, we ordered the chicken royale which was simply a meal drenched in butter and salt. The mashed potatoes that were included as a side were also drenched in butter and salt. There really was no skill or talent to the seasoning and preparation of the meals. We also had green bean--which had absolutely no taste at all. Not only was this meal unhealthy, but it was poorly prepared. It was a nauseating experience. Also, we requested to sit in a booth; a booth was offered to us by our "seater". The layout of the Grand Lux is much like a storage room or a middle-school cafeteria, flat and bland. There is absolutely no privacy where ever you choose to sit. Grand Lux does not have any booths. It doesn't appear that enough thought or planning went into the design layout. It felt murky and unwelcoming. The only thing that was good about the experience was our server's good energy. We imagine that his personality however has nothing to do with his employment at Grand Lux. Upon being nauseated by the poorly prepared, overly buttered and salted chicken royale, the manager told us that we ate "too much protein" to return it. Less than a quarter of the nasty meal was endured and there was more than half of the "protein/chicken" remaining. We have never heard of such a thing; it was very shocking and laughable. It took a five-minute conversation to ultimately get the disgusting meal removed from our ticket. This was a very very poor experience and it was our first visit. Our server was not at fault. He had great energy and we paid him a great tip.
