Employment contract was only signed days after employment. No proper planning was done when they arrived. Stationeries, Biometric access, IT, phone system were all not ready and the head had to keep on pressing others to get the job done. Working environment was not conducive. Company made the team worked in the call center environment which was really demotivating. The Sales Director had to balance her team spirit while trying to fight for their space. Eventually, this was highlighted to the management and they moved to a new environment on 15-Nov-11. On the 4th week of November, the Sales Director was alerted by her reporting head that she had to reduce 1-2 manpower due to the company’s high operating cost. She was distraught as this was not communicated to her earlier. Before she joined the company, she already made known to the management that in order for her to reach the target for Year 2012, she needs 3 of her guys to be on the team. Everything was in a mess and the management kept on procrastinating the current losses for her next target. This treatment is not fair and the Sales Director was even willing to reduce her salary in order for her headcount to stay the same. On 30th November, she approached the management to ask for the salary payment. To her astonishment, she was told that the salary will only be given on 12th December. When she asked her management for the reason, she was told that the delay was due to a payment that will only be credited on 12th December and that some of the finance guys’ salaries would also be delayed. In order for the team to get the salary faster, the Sales Director offered to call the vendor and asked if they could make the payment earlier. She sent a professional email to the finance executive and kept her department head in the CC loop to inform them about her disappointment. The management however was not sincere and did not communicate to the group on the salary delay. On 1st December, she went for a meeting with the management. In the meeting agenda, she was told that the MD had thought she offended her staff with her aggressive and demanding spirit and that she even blasted her people. These were ALL baseless accusations and were all untrue. She had never blasted anyone or speak to them in a disrespectful tone. This was even vounched by her direct head who was there. In fact, matters turned worse when her MD wanted her to apologise to others. This is really an insult to her pride and never in her working life, she had to swallow this gross injustice. The reason why she kept on fighting was because she felt responsible for her staff and she cannot leave them in the lurch. After the heated discussion, the management felt that the MD had misunderstood the whole situation and they have definitely mistreated her. However, the MD was not present in the entire meeting. Moving on, MD had even authorised the head to give them a notice letter indicating that if the team did not hit $100K revenue for the period 2-Dec to 22-Dec, they will not be paid and will have to leave. This is injustice and they are not being fairly treated. This is against the employment rights as this is not what was agreed upon earlier. Its not just an issue whether if the team could hit the target. The road is full of uncertainties and even if they could reach their targets, they are constantly worried about what will happen next. The Sales director could no longer endured the situation and tendered her resignation on Monday morning. Her reporting head accepted and subsequently went to inform HR. Within 10 minutes, the entire team was gathered in the meeting room and all got a termination letter including the Sales Director. When they questioned the reason, the HR personnel kept quiet. In addition, no notice was given. They were ordered to leave immediately without having their salary for the month ended November and their in-lieu notice pay. The entire group was terminated and no salary was given on the last day. They were told that salary will only be paid 7 days later and no in-lieu notice will be paid. How will you feel if you are in their shoes? Salary is important but most of all, the group cannot accept the fact that they are being terminated with no reason. This is sheer injustice and the group will definitely fight for their rights! Anyone could be caught in a similar situation! Please support them and circulate this article so that there will not be any innocent targets again!
