Good care but tired of being upsold
2
I’ve been taking my pets to a VCA in the SF Bay Area for years. I have no complaints about the quality of care- I wish they could retain their veterinarians for more than a year (seems to be the average tenure there!), but each vet I’ve seen has seemed knowledgeable. Despite the care being fine I’m looking for a new place (after over 14 years of VCA!). EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m there they either add tests without discussing with me (my cat was getting a regular checkup blood draw- I go to pay, they quoted me over $400. Turns out the vet had added an additional test that was optional but recommended because my cat was officially a senior. ASK ME first! I told them to take it off the bill- and they did, and the test ended up being done anyway so was free to me but still). Took my puppy in for a minor problem and asked for a nail trim while there. They took him to the back to trim. I go to pay and again there was a test added to the bill. This one had been done; I paid but was not happy. Get home and take a closer look at his nails- they didn’t trim a couple and the others just looked like the very tiny tips had been done & I re did myself. I could go on and on because it’s every visit lately. I’m a loving pet owner and it’s very hard for me to say no to a treatment or test a vet is suggesting because I want my pets to be healthy. But I’m feeling like I can’t trust them anymore- it’s too bad as I really don’t know how to best select a new vet but I’m done with VCA
