Front desk scam
1
I was attending a conference (I am from overseas) at this hotel for a second time. I prepaid 2 nights and gave my credit card for the other 2 nights (to be re-I burned by the conference organises). When I asked for a receipt the night before I checked out the front desk young Hispanic girl said could she have my credit card again. I said ok but hadn't she already got the details? The next morning before I leave I ask the same girl why didn't I receive my invoice for the payment? She said she had sent it to my email address, and then said she would do it again. I received my invoices-everything is paid. I return back to my country (24h travel) and check my credit card and I have 2 extra charges of 600 dollars. I ring my bank and they stop the card and advise me to ring the hotel. Don't forget this is supposedly a 5 star hotel with top rating on trip adviser. So I ring the hotel and they say they have no record of these extra charges! They also asked me to come in and talk to them (don't Americans know geography?). Anyway I get off the phone and contact Hilton office. They say it is up to the Miami hotel to fix. I then get a survey to fill out. I point out they have committed fraud but if they reverse it quickly my bank won't pursue them. Lo and behold I get an email from their manager who now admits yes they did take the money and will reverse the charges. Hopefully that happens soon. I think the front desk girl thought I would (as a foreigner) be an easy scam.
