My 13 year old son and I were so looking forward to our trip out to New Jersey to purchase some blueberry plants for our yard - this has been on our wish list for quite some time and we were so excited to finally be able to do this. We drove about an hour and a half. I pulled up into the driveway and there's a sign that says to honk three times and then call a phone number if no response to the honking. So we honked 3 times and there was no response and I called the number. What sounded like an irate crazy person answered the phone screaming telling me that he was waving his arms and directing me where to park from across the field and was very upset that I couldn't see him from where I was parked. We looked around and saw someone screaming and waving their arms pointing to where he wanted us to park. We then drove over and parked and as I rolled down my window he said, "I only take cash, I hope you brought cash." I told him that I did not have cash and he said, "Good-bye!" and started to walk away. So I said, excuse me, would you be able to tell me where an ATM is? He came over to the car and said that he has no idea where an ATM would be and that he doesn't use ATM's and it's not his responsibility to tell me where one is. I was completely flabbergasted at how he was speaking to us. I started to drive away when he threw his arms into the air and said, "Oh, so I guess it's MY fault that you weren't prepared with cash, right?" To which I answered, "No but it is your fault for being rude." I drove for a little bit and found another blueberry place on google maps and called them to see if they were open. I told them that we planned on buying from Dimeo but had a horrible experience. He answered , "You don't have to say anything else. We get so many of their customers and we're surprised that they are still in business with the way they treat people - he is an embarrassment to our town." We proceeded to drive to the new farm and buy the plants there. I would never go back to Dimeo's, even for FREE plants, but it is sad that this mentally unstable person is allowed to interact with the public and is not in some sort of treatment for his issues. Although, the more I think about it, it was a very educational experience for my son as we had a wonderful conversation about the whole thing and in a way it will prepare him for the future if he ever comes across someone like that.
