Fine print ripoff

1

Booked a cruise for October back in January, and paid a $500 deposit. In the fine print, it said the payment in full was due in July. Forgot about it, and called in Sep to confirm everything. They told me they cancelled my room (a suite), but could move me to an interior room if I wanted. Since we have two small kids, I said I had to check with my wife. Guy said if I didn't book right then the cruise would sell out, but what I could do is take the interior room and check back daily to see if anyone cancelled on a suite, so I said"OK". Spoke with my wife last night, and she just said to cancel, since there was no guarantee we would get a suite. Called back today to cancel, and the lady said that they're keeping 75% of the entire amount since I'm cancelling within the booking window, on top of the $500. Argued for close to 30 minutes, she wouldn't budge. Senior Agent Shelia was her name. Carnival sucks. Sold out a cruise, and stole over $1,100 because of some "fine print".
