Fare Sale, then Cancel the Flights?
1
Alaska Airlines had an incredible fare sale, my wife and I purchased direct flights to/from San Diego for just $59@ each way, the total RT airfare was a mere $253 for the both of us. Our relatives from Seattle also had a great deal on the airfare and they purchased tickets as well. We booked an Airbnb and were all set for a great vacation. That is until Alaska decided to cancel the flights and gave us no viable alternative. Oh sure we could get a refund on the airfare but we would lose almost $500 for the Airbnb and our relatives from Seattle still had their original flights. It sent us scrambling to try to figure what we could do, we were begging the Airbnb owner if we could get a refund. We were looking for flights on another airline, was it possible to drive, it was a mess. Of course I complained to Alaska but they just said that schedule changes happen all the time? Well if that is the case how am I ever to trust them with future plans to travel? I am retired from the airline industry and in my 40+ years in the business I have seen my share of schedule changes, anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours, all of which were easily manageable. I have never had an airline cancel the flight and leave no option for the customer.
