False and misleading advertising and failure to assume responsibility
1
On 11/2/2020, I purchased two (2) Kidde Worry-Free Combination Smoke and CO Alarms (Model P3010CU) at a local BJs Warehouse. Both units came from the same Kidde display carton. After installing the units, I began to fill in the Product Support question information on the enclosed instructions. One unit had a Date Code of 6/17/2020, but the other had a 9/3/2019 Date Code. I can understand a 5-month production/distribution lag time, but I do not appreciate a 14-month lag time. Especially since the units came from the same Kidde display carton and the unit package labeling touts a 10-year warranty, which was misleading in this case in that 14 months of the warranty had elapsed. I emailed a complaint to Kidde Customer Service on 11/16/20120, but no answer as of 12/8/2020, so I called Kidde 1-80*-880-****. I was told the distribution lag time was BJs fault, not Kidde. I explained that the 2 units, with different date codes, came from the same Kidde intermediate container of multiple units. The Kidde representative still blamed BJs. I asked about the failure of a reply to my initial email. Her answer was that it was not her responsibility with no further explanation. User's recommendation: Do not trust Kidde to stand behind their products.
